Guelph police are investigating after the driver of a pick-up rammed a police cruiser and fled Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly after noon, police report an officer was patrolling on Woolwich Street when the cruiser’s automated licence plate reader (ALPR) flagged a vehicle associated to a suspended driver. The officer attempted to pull over the black GMC Sierra pick-up as it entered the East Parkade on Macdonell Street.

A male passenger exited the truck and fled on foot. The driver intentionally reversed into the cruiser, causing minor damage, before fleeing the area. He also caused damage to the parkade entrance arms. The truck was not pursued in the interest of public safety. The driver was described as a light-skinned black male wearing a brown coat and blue medical mask.
