A Cambridge teen faces a weapons charge after being stopped by police in Guelph Saturday night.

Guelph police say just after 10:30 p.m., an officer was patrolling on Edinburgh Road North near Chancellor’s Way when he observed a male carrying an open can of beer. The male was told to dump out the alcohol, but refused and started running. He was stopped a short distance away and detained until his identity could be determined.

During a search a folding knife was located in his pants pocket. Investigation revealed the knife can be opened with centrifugal force, and that the male is on an undertaking which includes a weapons prohibition.

A 16-year-old Cambridge teen is charged with unauthorized possession of a weapon, failing to comply with an undertaking and two Liquor Licence Act offences.
