Man who knocked light pole over one of three charged with impaired

One hit a pole, one rear-ended another vehicle and a third almost caused an accident

Three men were charged with impaired driving over the long weekend in Guelph.

Saturday at 9:08 a.m. police received a complaint regarding a man sleeping inside a motor vehicle that was parked in a commercial parking lot located near the intersection of Woodlawn Road West and Imperial Road North.

At 9:16 a.m. police arrived on scene and began speaking to the male. He subsequently failed a roadside breath test and was arrested.

Further investigation revealed he was in possession of more than one driver’s licence.

A 32-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving.

At 2:09 p.m. Saturday a man rear-ended another motor vehicle while driving near the intersection of Gordon Street and Clairfields Drive.

He then attempted to leave the scene by swerving his vehicle around the other vehicle at a high rate of speed before losing control and striking a light post head on, say police. The light post was severed, falling onto the roadway, and his vehicle became undriveable as a result.

Police arrived on scene and subsequently arrested the driver.

Further investigation revealed the man was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collisions, and there was cannabis in the front seating area of the vehicle readily available to the male.

A 25-year-old Toronto male has been charged with:

- Impaired driving

- Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration

- Fail to stop after an accident

- Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available

- Driver fail to properly wear seat belt

Sunday at 1:54 a.m. police observed a man driving in a left-hand turn lane approaching an intersection in the downtown core. He then proceeded straight through the intersection, almost causing a collision.

A traffic stop was initiated, the male subsequently failed a roadside breath test and he was arrested.

A 49-year-old Windsor man was charged with impaired and making an unsafe move - lane.
