Fifth man arrested after summer gun incident downtown

Police have arrested a fifth person in relation to an incident in August involving the brandishing of a handgun in Downtown Guelph. Police also seized drugs, cash and ammunition from homes in Guelph and Brampton.

Early on the morning of Aug. 10, police received reports of several males involved in an altercation downtown; at one point a firearm was allegedly pointed. Police located and arrested two Brampton men a short distance away, and recovered a loaded Glock firearm and about $6,000 worth of fentanyl.

As the investigation continued, police raided homes in Guelph and Brampton, leading to the arrest of two Guelph men on drug charges.

On Wednesday, a 22-year-old Brampton man was arrested in relation to the investigation, upon his release from Maplehurst Correctional Complex on other matters. He is charged with possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking.
