Two motorists face charges of impaired driving and leaving the scene of an accident following separate collisions on the weekend, including one which closed Stone Road for much of Sunday, police report.
Approximately 1:15 a.m. a Nissan SUV was travelling eastbound on Stone Road West when the driver lost control, left the roadway and collided with two traffic light posts. The driver fled on foot but was located a short distance away. He had a strong odour of alcohol on his breath.
Due to the severity of the collision the male was transported to hospital to be assessed, but suffered only minor injuries. Breath tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
An 18-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving and failing to remain at a collision.
Damage was estimated at more than $30,000 and Stone Road West was closed for approximately 12 hours as crews worked to replace the damaged poles.
Approximately 3:20 a.m. Saturday, police were called for a hit and run collision on Paisley Road. A witness reported a loud bang near Bagot Street, and responding officers discovered an SUV with fresh damage. Twenty minutes later officers checking the area located a pickup with significant front-end damage.
The driver had a strong odour of alcohol on his breath and was unsteady on his feet. He was arrested and transported to the police station, where tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 37-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving and failing to remain at a collision.
