On Oct. 7, 2017 at approximately 10:55 p.m., Guelph police officers were on patrol in downtown Guelph when they were made aware of a disturbance. After speaking to one of the males involved in the disturbance, police began to arrest him for public intoxication.
A physical struggle then ensued when police attempted to arrest the male. The male allegedly assaulted police during this process.
During this incident, a second male is alleged to have interfered while police were attempting to arrest the first male they were dealing with. This second male was subsequently arrested.
As a result of this investigation, a 19-year-old Toronto male, was charged with assault police and being intoxicated in a public place, under the Liquor Licence Act. Furthermore, a 19-year-old Guelph male, was charged with obstruct police officer and being intoxicated in a public place.
Both males were given a Nov. 28, 2017 court date.
