Guelph police report that an elderly cyclist has died of injuries sustained last week when she was struck by a vehicle.
At 1 p.m. last Thursday, emergency services were called to Victoria Road North in front of St. James Catholic High School. A female in her 70s was riding southbound when she was struck by a Ford sedan. The driver of the sedan quickly left the scene without checking on the cyclist.
The cyclist was transported to a Hamilton trauma centre.
A 35-year-old Guelph man has been charged with failing to stop after an accident causing bodily harm.
The collision remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to police, or anyone with dashcam or home security footage of Victoria Road North between Cassino Avenue and Grange Road between 12:45 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. Thursday is asked to contact Constable Christine Lovell of the Guelph Police Traffic Unit at 519-993-5499 or by email at [email protected].
