Cyclist hit by vehicle on Victoria Road Thursday has died

A 35-year-old Guelph man has been charged with failing to stop after an accident causing bodily harm

A cyclist was taken to hospital after being struck by a vehicle Thursday afternoon in front of the entrance to St. John Catholic Elementary School.

Guelph police report that an elderly cyclist has died of injuries sustained last week when she was struck by a vehicle.

At 1 p.m. last Thursday, emergency services were called to Victoria Road North in front of St. James Catholic High School. A female in her 70s was riding southbound when she was struck by a Ford sedan. The driver of the sedan quickly left the scene without checking on the cyclist.

The cyclist was transported to a Hamilton trauma centre.

The collision remains under investigation.
