Charges laid after encampment beef turns violent

A Guelph man faces assault and firearms charges after another male reported having a BB gun fired at him.

Monday morning the victim attended the police station. He reported he had been at an encampment in the city’s west end and was involved in a verbal altercation with another man, during which the suspect pulled a black handgun from his waistband and shot it at the victim. He was not physically injured.

Officers attended the encampment and located the suspect. Two black Airsoft pistols were seized. A woman was also located and investigation revealed she and the suspect are both bound by conditions not to contact each other.

A 29-year-old man is charged with pointing a firearm, discharging a firearm with intent to wound, assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and two counts of failing to comply with a release order. He was held for a bail hearing.

A 31-year-old Guelph woman is charged with failing to comply with a release order.
