The University of Guelph has issued an alert to immediately evacuate several buildings on campus due to a security risk.
The warning was sent out via email and on the school's website at 10:20 a.m.
Guelph police tweeted at 11:31 a.m. that the buildings were evacuated "as a precaution."
“The alarms went off and teachers told us to leave safely and cautiously,” said Liam Calhoun, a second-year student who was writing an exam at the time.
Students taking an exam for their pathology course had about 45 minutes left of their two hour long exam when the fire alarm went off, said third-year student Brennan Tyler.
“We we’re all just stunned for a second,” he said.
Four exams were going on in four classrooms in the Rozanski Hall building, said one student.
He was still waiting to pick up his belongings at 11:30 a.m.
A Campus Safety officer on scene said staff were going to be allowed to get their belongings then students.
An update on the U of G site said "Police and other emergency services are managing a security risk" at those locations.
Guelph police are also on scene.
Exams scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at Rozanski Hall have been cancelled.
Aadil Siddique said students have been waiting outside since 9:50 a.m.
He and others were waiting outside until they can pick up their belongings from inside Rozanski Hall.
The warning instructed students to immediately evacuate Rozanski Hall, the Bullring and Landscape Architecture buildings "IMMEDIATELY due to Security Risk."
"Remain calm. DO NOT USE ELEVATORS. Await further instructions from U of G Alert," the warning read.
Those in the area have been moved to a safe space. All others are asked to avoid the area. Emergency services are managing the scene and are dealing with the situation.
