Arrest after man pistol-whipped

A Guelph man faces drug and weapons charges after another male was reportedly pistol-whipped Saturday morning.

Just after 7 a.m. police were patrolling on Willow Road near Applewood Crescent when they were flagged down by an injured male. He reported being involved in an altercation with another male, during which the victim was struck in the head with the handle of a gun. He was transported to hospital for treatment of a laceration on the back of his head.

Officers located the subject male in the area and placed him under arrest. A search incident to arrest revealed an Airsoft pistol and quantities of suspected cocaine, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, hydromorphone, cash and drug paraphernalia. The drugs have an estimated value of $3,000.

A 42-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, three counts of possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking and failing to comply with a release order. He was held for a bail hearing.
