Two males face impaired driving charges following separate collisions on the weekend, including one which left a vehicle on its side.
Approximately 2:30 a.m. Saturday emergency services were called to Suffolk Street West and Yorkshire Street North for a report of a vehicle on its side with the driver still inside. The driver was extricated from the Toyota Rav4 by members of the Guelph Fire Department.
He was transported to hospital for assessment after being placed under arrest. Once medically cleared he was transported to the police station, where tests revealed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 27-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and novice driver having alcohol in his body.
Just before 2 a.m. Sunday police responded to a two-vehicle collision on the University of Guelph campus. A Toyota SUV was attempting to turn around when it was struck by a Ford pick-up, causing extensive damage to both vehicles but luckily no serious injuries.
Officers from the Campus Safety Office responded and believed the Ford driver to be impaired. He was placed under arrest and turned over to Guelph Police officers who arrived a short time later.
Breath tests at the police station revealed the male had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system. A 17-year-old Essex County male is charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving.
Both drivers had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for seven days. Both were released with upcoming court dates.
