OTTAWA – A spirited third-period comeback was spoiled in overtime Friday night in Ottawa as the Guelph Storm fell 5-4.

Henry Mews scored the winner with 15 seconds remaining in overtime, a power-play one-time blasted by Storm goaltender Zack Jovanovski, who was making his OHL debut.

Trailing 4-1, Guelph scored three times in the final 6:36 of regulation to tie the game, with Jake Karabela forcing overtime with a goal with just four seconds left in regulation.

Guelph had chances on their own power play in overtime, but Ottawa got the man advantage when Hunter McKenzie was called for cross-checking, a retaliation for a nasty cross-check he took seconds earlier while laying on the ice that went uncalled.

Jovanovski made 12 saves after relieving Brayden Gillespie, who allowed four goals on 16 shots before getting the hook in the second period.

McKenzie, Karabela, Max Namestnikov and Carter Stevens had the Guelph goals.

Guelph, losers of eight in a row, play in Kingston Saturday night.
