WELLINGTON NORTH TOWNSHIP – On June 27, 2016 at approximately 8:05 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a 9-1-1 call from a motorist who was following a possible impaired driver that was seen weaving erratically on Wellington Road 14 until it finally crashed on Line 2 in Wellington North Township.

The witness observed the male driver exit the vehicle and run into a field.

A short time later a female driving a pick-up truck attended the accident scene, picked up the male and quickly sped away.

Officers determined who the driver was and attended his residence however; they were unable to locate him until they returned the following evening and placed him under arrest.

His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.

21-year-old Robert Wilson of Wellington North Township has been charged with impaired driving contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada, adult fail to remain contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and adult drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Act.

He is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on August 12, 2016 to answer to the charges.
