Guelph Police say there were no serious injuries when a small car was struck by a Guelph Junction Railway train mid Tuesday morning.
The driver of the car was taken to Guelph General Hospital with minor injuries. She has been charged with disobey railway signal - stop at wrong place, said Guelph Police.
The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. on the tracks at the intersection of Macdonell Street and Woolwich Street, just east of downtown Guelph.
Witnesses said a small Nissan Versa hatchback heading towards downtown on Macdonell Street stopped or was stuck on the tracks and was struck by an Ontario Southland Railway locomotive pulling several other cars.
Guelph Police were still investigating the incident but said that there were no injuries. There was damage to the front end of the car, which was knocked off the tracks by the collision.
The road was closed for approximately one hour but reopened by 11:30 a.m.
