A total of 53 artists have submitted requests to be pre-qualified for the public art installation planned for Wilson Street.
The list includes six artists from Guelph and one from Eden Mills. It also includes artists as far away as Nevada, Missouri and England.
Jan. 29 was the deadline for interested artists.
The public piece is planned to go at the south end of Wilson Street, in front of the Guelph Farmers' Market.
The selection committee will now look at the experience, vision, approach and references of the interested artists.
The committee will then chose up to three of them to give a presentation and to be interviewed before selecting a recommended project.
At this early point the process did not ask for what the plans of the artist were.
