THE MAKING-BOX

Two-hundred live comedy shows is no joke. Or, depending on how you look at it, a heck of a lot of them.

The Making-Box, Guelph and Kitchener's hub for improv education and live comedy, is kicking off the 2019/2020 comedy season on Friday, Sept. 6. The first show back will be their 200th live comedy show and will also be the first show of a new comedy season running weekly shows from September 2019 until July 2020.

The Making-Box started as a group of three friends who didn’t have a place to perform comedy, so they decided to put on their own shows. The founders agreed if people stopped coming, they would stop doing shows. However, each monthly show drew more people and fans returned for more. The shows moved from monthly to bi-weekly. Now, 200 shows later, shows are performed every Friday night out of a store-front theatre in downtown Guelph.

"The Making-Box is an experiment that's gone horribly right," says co-founder and director, Jay Reid. "Our first show was performed in a dark legion hall, and now we produce shows every Friday night in our own store-front theatre in Downtown Guelph.”

The 200th show is a night dedicated solely to improv and the people who have performed it throughout this nearly six-year and 200 show run. Professional improvisers from past and present professional ensembles will come together with a staff team. It’s the first time a feature show has been performed entirely by people who came up through The Making-Box.

The rest of the season will feature regular improv series Royal City Heroes and Versus. There will also be stand-up comedy shows with confirmed headliners Mark Little (Mr. D, Picnicface, Halifax Comedy Fest), Tom Henry (Crave TV, JFL42, Just for Laughs) and Deanne Smith (Netflix, Last Comic Standing) to name a few.

A full September line-up can be found here.

Tickets for all shows from September to December are now available online.
