Sunday fire ravages east end home

Multiple fire units responded to a blaze at 61 Brant Ave. around 3 p.m.

Fire severely damaged a home on Guelph's east side Sunday afternoon.

The fire broke out mid-afternoon Sunday at 61 Brant Ave., just east of Victoria Road, directly across from Brant Avenue Public School.

Several fire units responded and quickly extinguished the main fire, but smoke was still billowing out of the roof and from the basement 90 minutes later.

The home is a one-storey brick bungalow with siding on the front.

It was not known if there were any injuries.

A bystander said they saw a man exit the home under his own power shortly after the fire started and that he was seen to by emergency crews before leaving in an ambulance.

"There were flames shooting out of the roof," said the man, who didn't want to give his name.

Information from police and fire officials was not immediately available.
