With construction of the South End Community Centre continuing, city officials are set to shut down the adjoining park until spring.
South End Community Park on Poppy Drive West, which includes Nick’s Dragonfly playground, will be closed beginning Monday.
“Full accessibility of the park features cannot be guaranteed during this period of construction and season, and the City has decided to close the park until the spring for public safety,” states a post on the city’s website. “Security fencing has been installed on-site to prevent further use and will remain in place until the park features reopen in the spring.”
Alternatively, city officials are directing people to Gosling Gardens Park (75 Gosling Gardens), Clair Park (22 Eugene Drive) and Westminster Woods Park (146 Clairfields Dr. E.). For an accessible play area, residents are encouraged to visit Royal City Park on Gordon Street, on the north side of the Speed River.
