Safety study on Arkell's Boreham Park will be its last review: mayor

'The amount of staff resources put into reviewing this facility has been draining for the corporation:' says Mayor James Seeley

PUSLINCH – Puslinch’s mayor is hoping a safety study on an Arkell park, and the recommendations that may come from it, is the last review of it as he said the time put into it has been a drain on staff resources.

At a Wednesday council meeting, Puslinch council unanimously approved a safety review and analysis of Boreham Park’s play structure and the area adjacent to the park which consists of a drainage ditch for stormwater management.

In total, it will come at a cost of around $5,000 and be undertaken by consultant Urban in Mind and Tatum Engineering.

This study was spurred in part by a delegation by park neighbour Bruce Taylor who raised some concerns about the potential for someone to drown in the drainage ditch surrounding the playground, the dangers of erecting a barrier around the playground area and has suggested, along with the Concerned Citizens of Puslinch committee, to turn the ditches into culverts.

This last delegation was in March 2024, but Taylor has raised issues regarding Boreham Park periodically at council meetings for the past few years and through regular emails to staff and council with members of the media cc’d.

Coun. John Sepulis said at the meeting he was hoping the need for the current stormwater management ditch to be left as is would be clear as people appear to be mistaken in believing it could be covered.

Mayor James Seeley told council it was his opinion this would be the “last time” Boreham Park is reviewed.

“I feel that we have looked at this enough, so this would be it so I hope that council is going to be satisfied with this final review of the park and how stormwater management works because the amount of staff resources put into reviewing this facility has been draining for the corporation,” Seeley said.
