Riverside Park playground getting a makeover (6 photos)

New disc golf course and new playground equipment being installed

Work has begun on replacing the playground equipment at Riverside Park.

Trees have been fenced off for protection and work has began on removing the old equipment. The work is expected to be completed in June.

The work does not affect the carousel or the train.

The process began three years ago, as the city moved to upgrade the equipment to meet current Canadian Standards Association’s standards for children’s play-spaces and equipment.

The design features a large tree house structure with multiple slides, climbers and spinners; a large wood water strider structure and log climber; a water table; a variety of swings in two areas; large group spinner; distinct junior area with slides, rubber hills and mounds; and a series of new trails.

Part of the park is being designed by EarthScape, the same company that did the new Exhibition Park playground.

A 9-hole disc golf course is also being planned for the east side of Riverside Park, running along Riverside Drive, from the windmill, north to the walking bridge, and back.
