A Canadian commemorative medal has been created to mark His Majesty King Charles III's Coronation on May 6, 2023. The King Charles III Coronation Medal is a visible and tangible way to recognize 30, 000 outstanding Canadians of all ages and from all walks of life who have made a difference in their communities.

The Coronation Medal is the first Canadian commemorative medal to mark a coronation, featuring the Canadian Royal Crown approved by His Majesty The King, as part of its design. The Office of the Secretary to the Governor General is responsible for administering the medal program.

The constituency of Guelph, through the office of Guelph Member of Parliament Lloyd Longfield, has been selected to be a partner organization to present up to 20 medals to individuals living in Guelph who are nominated and meet the eligibility criteria. Medals honouring worthy candidates will be awarded in a celebration later this fall. Nominations must be submitted by August 2, 2024 through the link provided: https://www.mplongfield.ca/king-charles-iii-coronation-medal

Nominations should focus on the achievements of persons who have helped build the Canada of today. Individuals will be recognized for their long service and good conduct as a volunteer or member of an organization; for having demonstrated high professionalism; or for performing a deed or activity that brings great credit to Canada and our community. Through their achievements and sustained contributions, nominees will have distinguished themselves.

The Medal is to be awarded to individuals only, not to groups or couples. The selection process is non-partisan and merit-based.

Eligibility Criteria

Be a resident of the constituency of the current federal riding of Guelph;

Have made a significant contribution to Canada or to a particular province, territory, region of, or community in, Canada, or attained an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada; and

Been alive on May 6, 2023, the date of His Majesty’s Coronation. Nominations can be made posthumously, as long as the nominee was alive on that date.

Commemorative honours are created to mark special occasions. The King Charles III Coronation medal is the first Canadian commemorative medal to mark a coronation.

On May 3, 2023, the Prime Minister announced the Government of Canada’s intention to award 30 000 Coronation medals to individuals who have made a significant contribution to Canada, a province, territory, region or community, or attained an achievement abroad that brings benefit or honour to Canadians or Canada.

The Office of the Secretary to the Governor General (OSGG) is responsible for administering the King Charles III Coronation Medal on behalf of the Government of Canada.
