NEWS RELEASE
SALVATION ARMY GUELPH CITADEL
*************************************
The Salvation Army Guelph Citadel is calling on the community to step up and volunteer for its annual Christmas Kettle Campaign to help reach the $425,000 fundraising goal. The campaign is currently facing a critical shortfall, with just 62 per cent of the goal raised and 55 per cent of volunteer Kettle shifts still unfilled.
The funds raised during the Christmas Kettle Campaign stay right in Guelph and are essential for providing critical services to thousands of individuals and families in need. These donations ensure that The Salvation Army can continue to offer vital programs and meet the increasing demands for food, clothing, and essential supplies. Over the past year, more than 15,000 households have received aid, underscoring the urgency and importance of reaching this year’s fundraising goal.
The Salvation Army is facing a dramatic $160,000 shortfall in donations due to the ongoing Canada Post strike, jeopardizing essential support for vulnerable members of the community. This crisis hits during the critical holiday season, when most of the organization’s annual fundraising is typically generated.
"This season, many in our community are carrying burdens they shouldn't have to bear alone," says Major Peter van Duinen, Pastor of The Salvation Army Guelph Citadel. "Christmas is a time for hope and togetherness, but for some, it feels out of reach. By volunteering or donating, you can help bring joy and relief to those who need it most. Your time can truly change a family's Christmas."
With mail-in donations down, kettles and online donations are more important than ever. Every kettle shift that goes without a volunteer makes it more difficult to reach fundraising goals and provide the essential support that so many rely on.
For more information on how to get involved in this year’s Christmas Kettle Campaign, please contact The Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle team at 519-803-1835 or visit www.guelphsa.ca/kettles. Together, the community can ensure that no one faces the holidays alone or without hope.
