Guelph Transit has a new person behind the wheel.
General manager Robin Gerus is leaving Guelph Transit after eight years at the helm. He has accepted a position as executive director of Halifax Transit with Halifax Regional Municipality. His last day with Guelph is today, his new job starts Jan. 27.
Taking over, at least in the short term, is Glenn Marcus. He becomes the interim general manager.
Marcus has been with the city for nine years, the last eight years with the city's public service team. His last title was strategic business advisor, which included working on the business end of Guelph Transit.
"I'm very proud of my time here," Gerus said at the Transit Advisory Committee meeting Thursday evening. "We've accomplished some great transit initiatives. I'm very proud of that ... I've thoroughly enjoyed the journey."
The meeting also saw the introduction of Ihor Witowych as the new transit operations manager. That position had been vacant. Witowych has worked in public transit for the past 27 years, the last 20 with the TTC.
