Since Diabetes Canada started hosting its semi-annual clothing donation drive up events in 2020, Canadians have donated more than 450,000 pounds of clothing and small household goods that have been used to help raise funds to support the more than 11 million Canadians affected by diabetes.

This fall and at a time of year when people are de-cluttering their homes and closets, Diabetes Canada is encouraging Canadians to join them again in donating for a great cause. Diabetes Canada will be in Guelph on Sept. 16, 2023 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Giant Tiger at 183 Silvercreek Parkway N with a truck ready to be filled with gently used clothing and small household donations. Diabetes Canada staff will be on hand at the curbside drive-up event to take your donation bag or box from the trunk of your car to fill the Diabetes Canada truck.

Sean Shannon, president and CEO of National Diabetes Trust, said, “Our friendly staff are excited and ready and our trucks will be waiting to be filled across Canada including here in Guelph with your donated gently used clothing and small household goods. At this time of year, people are decluttering around the house and preparing for fall and winter. It’s a perfect time to donate your unwanted items to Diabetes Canada.”

Your support helps support research for people living with diabetes and give children living with type 1 diabetes the opportunity to attend Diabetes Canada’s summer camps designed with their needs in mind. “Thanks to our generous donors and volunteers we also divert about 100 million pounds of clothing and small household items from community landfills annually,” said Shannon. “I hope everyone will come help us fill our truck.”

For those unable to make it out to the community clothing donation this Saturday, they can donate used clothing at one of the charity’s donation bins or schedule for a free home pick up. To learn more about locations, home pick up and what items can be donated, visit the website.
