Jim Estill, CEO of Danby Appliances, has been awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from Hazara Refugees and Hazara Hope and Empowerment Association, recognizing his profound impact in supporting Hazara refugees in their resettlement journey.

Through the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP) program, Estill has helped to bring over 200 Hazara refugees to Canada from Pakistan, Iran, and other countries, providing them with safety and an opportunity for a fresh start. His generous efforts have saved lives, giving these refugees a chance to rebuild in a secure and welcoming environment.

The Hazara community in Afghanistan has faced decades of discrimination and been at risk of genocide. In response, Estill has played a key role in offering employment opportunities upon arrival, ensuring that refugees can start working within two to three weeks. This approach has helped them to facilitate their integration into Canadian society more quickly and gain economic independence.

A key partner in this effort is Circle Home, a charity founded by Estill that provides essential home furnishings and settlement support to refugee families. By ensuring these families have a comfortable and welcoming place to live, Circle Home has helped to ease the transition into their new lives in Canada, reinforcing a sense of stability and belonging.

“I am deeply grateful for this recognition, but more importantly, I am humbled by the opportunity to help those in need,” said Jim Estill. “Doing the right thing—helping people build new lives in safety and dignity—has always been a guiding principle for me. Seeing these families thrive and become part of our community is the greatest reward.”

The impact of these efforts extends far beyond the individuals directly supported. By welcoming and integrating refugees, we strengthen our communities, enrich our workplaces, and build a more compassionate and diverse society. Each success story is a testament to the power of generosity and the resilience of the human spirit.
