Pedestrians and other users of the covered bridge downtown will need to adjust their travel plans for a week or so next month.
Foundational repairs and replacement of the stairs are on the way for the Speed River crossing, which essentially connects Royal City and York Road parks. The work is expected to begin on Dec. 10 and take about a week to complete.
“The closure and a detour will be clearly noted with signs on site,” explains a post on the city’s website. “Throughout the closure, anyone looking to get between the east and west banks of the Speed River can travel along Wyndham Street South to Wellington Street East to Gordon Street.”
Preliminary work for the project, which does not require the bridge to be closed, is slated to start on Monday.
