The City of Guelph and the Downtown Guelph Business Association is getting ready to celebrate the reopening of Wilson Street in a big way.
On Nov. 18, the downtown street will be reopened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by Mayor Cam Guthrie, live entertainment and $500 prize draw.
Wilson Street, which was closed since July for replacement of water and sewer pipes, will reopen with larger sidewalks, new street benches, lighting and trees.
In addition, a new pedestrian island has been added on Macdonell Street across from Wilson Street.
Those present to celebrate the reopening will be given a ‘passport’, to be used as a sort of treasure hunt to visit businesses on the street to collect a treat from Killer Cupcakes, a hot drink from The Common or a flower from Sweet Violets.
The passport can then be submitted for a draw, with two $250 gift certificate prizes and a grand prize draw of a $500 gift certificate.
Participants must be present at the time of the draw to win.
Live entertainment will be played at some businesses along the strip, as well as face painting for children and other activities.
Festivities begin at 10 a.m., with a ribbon cutting occurring at noon.
The event will wrap up by 2 p.m., with closing remarks and the prize draw starting at 1:50 p.m.
