"It's a gem for the city," said City of Guelph general manager of parks and recreation Heather Flaherty Thursday, surveying the new playground at Riverside Park.
Four months in the making, the new playground opened to the public Thursday, as fences came down.
Two and a half year old James Thomas timed things right. He and his mother were riding by on their bicycles just as the park opened and he became the first child to try out the equipment.
The park emphasises accessibility and safety.
Several slides for all ages, instructional boards on animal tracks, climbing structures, two sets of swings, benches, asphalt paths, rubberized and wood chip ground cover are all part of the new playground.
