Looks like an increasingly busy intersection on Guelph's east side is finally going to get traffic signals.
An e-mail sent to city councillors by city staff said that a recent traffic study shows that the intersection of Watson Parkway North and Eastview Road has now reached the tipping point when it comes to qualifying for traffic lights.
The e-mail was posted on the blog of Ward 1 councillor Dan Gibson.
A traffic study was conducted by the city on Sept. 20.
"The results of the analysis of the Sept. 20, 2016 traffic information indicates that the traffic signal warrant thresholds have been met," the internal e-mail states.
"We also reviewed the historical traffic information collected previously to determine if the most recent traffic information is statistically sound in comparison and have established that there has been an overall growth in volume since 2013 and therefore are satisfied that a new traffic signal is warranted currently."
While funding for the new traffic lights is not currently available, there are funds proposed in the 2017 budget for traffic lights throughout the city, the e-mail said.
If council approves those in the upcoming budget process, the new lights would be installed in the spring or summer of 2017, it said.
