The life and accomplishments of famed Guelph poet Col. John McCrae will be centre stage as Backyard Theatre marks its tenth season next month.

‘War and Peace: Songs and Monologues’ by Phapsodius (a.k.a. Andrew Craig) will be performed outside on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from Aug. 15 to 24 at McCrae House on Water street.

The one-act play features songs about war and peace composed in the 20th century by artists including Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Bob Dylan, John Lennon and Bob Marley. They’re woven together with “deeply considered monologues” from ancient and more contemporary authors.

The performance “aims to educate, enlighten, uplift and inspire in equal measure, and leave you with the sense that a peaceful world is indeed possible, and that we can co-create it,” a news release states.

Performances are generally set to begin at 7 p.m., in addition to 2 p.m. matinees on Saturdays.

Tickets cost $25 each and are available through Eventbrite or by calling 519-836-1221.
