A not-for-profit is holding its annual walk later this month to benefit children with a rare motor speech disorder.

The annual Guelph Walk for Apraxia runs Saturday, Sept. 28 at Riverside Park.

The event starts at 9:30 a.m. and a ceremony will start at 10:30 a.m. The event will also feature activities for all ages and an inclusive awareness walk. It is free to register.

CAS, or children with apraxia of speech, makes it difficult for someone to speak. It has no cure.

Someone who has CAS will often have to go to speech therapy or other therapies to reach their highest communication ability possible.

Raising awareness is one of the most tangible ways that communities at large can help children with apraxia thrive,” Apraxia Kids said in a news release.

“Increased collective awareness means that children will be diagnosed faster, resulting in better, earlier intervention.”

Funds raised will benefit Apraxia Kids, which is a not for profit organization that helps strengthen support systems for children with CAS.

You can register for the walk on the Apraxia Kids website.
