Next week, and little beyond, will be an opportunity for local schools to show the public what they’re made of.

The Ontario Ministry of Education has designated May 2-6 as Education Week — a time for schools to put their accomplishments on display, and to reflect on what lies ahead.

The Upper Grand District School Board expended the showcase of school culture, pride and achievement until mid-May, giving schools the flexibility to make their own unique contribution to Education Week.

“Parents will have received information in their newsletters and on the school’s website about what is planned for each school,” said Sue Krueger, Upper Grand’s executive assistant to the director. “There will be open houses, and some schools are planning library fairs. Other schools may even run performances and exhibits. It really depends on the particular school.”

The theme for the province-wide Education Week this year is “Learn, Lead, Inspire…Together.”

The week will officially launch in the Upper Grand system on Monday, May 2, at Centre Dufferin District High School, 150 Fourth Avenue in Shelburne. The public is invited to attend.

In a collaborative effort, Upper Grand and Wellington Catholic District School Board are jointly producing Education Week bookmarks, which will be distributed through school libraries across the district.

Upper Grand’s logo for the occasion was designed by Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute grade 12 student Samuel Oh, after a competition was held.

Contact your local school for more details about what they are offering for Education Week.
