Update: Power has been restored in the city's east end, states a tweet from @GuelphHydro posted at about 10:40 a.m. Friday. An official with Alectra has confirmed. About 6,800 customers were impacted.
Two electricity feeder lines have gone down in Guelph, causing a power outage in much of the east end.
The outage was confirmed by an Alectra media spokesperson.
"Crews are working hard to get it restored," Rosa Mejia said.
The lines went down at about 6 a.m. As a result, traffic signals at several intersections aren't working and Wellington Catholic District School Board summer classes at St. John Catholic School were cancelled.
Upper Grand District School Board summer school classes at John F. Ross Secondary School have also been impacted.
