A belly full of laughs with the Guelph Comedy Festival this week

The festival kicks off at 10C Thursday with a community showcase featuring improv groups

The Guelph Comedy Festival is on this week to try and bring laughter to locals.

The festival started in 2010 as a grass-roots festival put on by volunteers. This year’s festival starts on Thursday.

All events for the festival will take place at 10C at 42 Carden St. Tickets can be purchased online and there is an option to pay for a live stream link of the events as well as tickets for the in-person shows.

Here is the lineup:

Thursday

Community Showcase
10C at 42 Carden St.; 8 to 9:30 p.m.
The Guelph CVI improv team will take the stage. There will also be a performance from the Community Hearts Improv Club lead by Hayley Kellet. To end off the night there will be a showcase from Build-a-Troupe, an improv class coached by Rob Lewin. Tickets are available online.

Friday

An Evening of Music and Laughter
10C at 42 Carden St.; 7:30 to 9 p.m.
The music comedy event is hosted by Spencer “Slow Jam” Dunn and includes acts from David Lee Both, Glenys Marshall, Staccayto Staccato, and directed by Daphne Copper. Tickets are available online.

Got Land? Comedy
10C at 42 Carden St.; 9:30 to 11 p.m.
A stand-up comedy variety show hosted by Janelle Niles and performances from Denise B. McLeod, Clint Couchie, and Patrick Cheechoo. The variety show features First Nation, Inuit and Metis people who will tell jokes and share their individual life experiences. Tickets are available online.

Saturday

Oops! All Parents!
10C at 42 Carden St.; 11 a.m.
The band Mr. J and the Groovy Gang will play some live music. Improvisers Ben Gorodetsky, Josh Anderson-Coats, Tom Brown, and more will perform child-friendly improv based on music from the band. This family-friendly show is for all ages and tickets can be purchased online.

Comedy Sketch-Tacular
10C at 42 Carden St.; 7:30 to 9 p.m.
A sketch comedy show featuring sketch groups Tongues, Disco-Lagoon and headliner Jon Blair. Tickets are available online.

Comedy Charcuterie
10C at 42 Carden St.; 9:30 to 11 p.m.
A variety of comedy including an improvised Bollywood musical, stand-up from Nile Séguin and Ben Sosa-Wright, and Corpse, a sketch duo with Rob Lewin and Cas Knihnicky. Tickets are available online.
