Lloyd Longfield, Member of Parliament for Guelph, presented the King Charles III Coronation Medals in a special ceremony hosted at the River Run Centre last evening.

Longfield was given 20 medals by Gov. Gen. Mary Simon to present to individuals living in the federal constituency of Guelph, on behalf of King Charles III. Nominations were accepted and recipients chosen by a review committee who were tasked with reviewing the achievements of local persons who have helped build the Canada of today.

Individuals were recognized for their long service and good conduct as a volunteer or member of an organization; for having demonstrated high professionalism; or for performing a deed or activity that brings great credit to Canada and our community. So many wonderful nominations were submitted, and Longfield offers his thanks to both the nominators and the review committee for their hard work in reviewing and selecting the 20 recipients.

His Majesty has great respect and fondness for Canada, having conducted a number of Royal Tours and visits many times over the years, including his most recent in 2022, prior to his Coronation. The presentation of these medals, following the King’s official Coronation, represent his personal commitment and continued work in advancing issues of global concern and in bringing about positive change.

The recipients reflect King Charles III’s commitment to encouraging volunteerism, to promoting environmental sustainability and to empowering youth.

The recipients celebrated last night include: Anu Saxena, Barbara Wood, Denise Francis, Frank Valeriote, Jaya James, Jim Estill, Joanne O’Meara and Jordan Embro, Joy Schuster, Karyn Kirkwood, Kayla Kween Gerber, Laurie Whyte, Linda Hasenfratz, Dr. Nicola Mercer, Noah Irvine, Patricia Sorbara, Ralf Mesenbrink, Ross Kirkconnell, Shakiba Shayani and Sundes Alammi.
