GuelphToday received the following letter about those who want to eradicate the past.
Kudos to Noah Irvine on his letter regarding the school board wanting to change the current names of schools, despite public opinion.
In my opinion, changing the names is as ridiculous as changing the names of streets in town, or protesters who think they have the right to deface monuments such as the one of Queen Victoria in Kitchener Victoria Park, or the statues of the prime ministers in Baden.
People need to remember the good things that these people did for our country, Canada, and think past the things that aren't acceptable in today's world, but were the thing to do at the time. To try to eliminate these facts of history is destroying where we came from and who we are.
We learn from our mistakes. None of us are perfect, so why do some think they can dictate what the rest of us should be doing? It's called bullying. Who wants to be like Donald Trump?
Canada is a democratic country and our public opinion should be honoured.
