GuelphToday received the following Letter to the Editor from reader Pauline Davis, in regards to a recent hotel stay:

To hockey parents of unruly children:

Upon a recent overnight stay at a four star hotel in Guelph we were unable to sleep due to children screaming, shrieking and banging on doors, and stomping up and down hallways. After consulting with the front desk we were told these children were part of a young group of hockey players and that this was a regular occurrence. I stuck my head out the door and asked them to kindly to keep their voices down and in response they screamed even louder. I was ill with the flu and trying to get some much needed rest.

The hotel manager informed us that this kind of behaviour was standard with hockey teams and that their parents not only condoned it but grew angry and abusive to hotel staff when confronted with their children's unruly behaviour. Other than banning them from the hotel ( which would cost the hotel their livelihood) he said there wasn't much that could be done.

When did the value of respect, kindness and consideration for others go out of fashion?

If parents don't model the basic tenets of civilized behaviour to their boorish children who is at fault?

Pauline Davis,
Guelph
