Mike Schreiner urged his supporters to not “agonize" but "organize” coming up against another majority PC government, he slid into a landslide victory for the Guelph riding marking a third term.
“The two Ontario Green MPPs will do our job to hold your government accountable. We will do it as the unofficial, official opposition,” said Schreiner during his victory speech at Delta Hotels Conference Centre.
He was the only Green MPP up until Aislinn Clancy won in Kitchener-Centre during a byelection in 2023. Clancy re-claimed her seat with 21,200 votes. The seats remain at two for the Green Party at Queen’s Park.
Roughly 150 people were in attendance to support the Green Party leader. Cheers erupted as results rolled in on the two projected screens in the large conference room.
Schreiner watched the votes tally up from a suite at the Delta Hotel before walking through a sea of green in the hotel’s ballroom.
Schreiner reclaimed his seat with 34,238 votes, up from 29,769 in 2022. He received 29,082 votes in 2018.
He was first elected in 2018 and when 2022 came around he was elected again with over 50 per cent voter support.
“There, are real and serious challenges facing the province of Ontario in climate, housing, health care, education and tariffs. You could put the word crisis after each and every one of those items. As a matter of fact, it feels like crisis has become the new normal in Ontario,” he said.
He reiterated his willingness to work across party lines to get things done as he has said many times before.
“Don't agonize, organize,” said Schreiner. “Because just in the same way that people power saved the Greenbelt, people power can fight to build homes that people can afford, to fix health care and education and to protect the people and places we love in this province. We owe it to the people of Ontario to fight for progressive values, and that's why Ontario Greens are going to continue to organize, organize, organize for the people of Ontario.”
Although the Green Party didn’t gain any more seats, Schreiner extended his thanks to Matt Richter, Green Party candidate for Parry Sound. He received 19,360 votes, and lost by a over 2,000 votes to PC Party candidate Graydon Smith.
Schreiner said the Greens fought for fairness and a livable affordable future for our children. “Aislinn Clancy and I will continue that fight for you at Queen’s Park as your champions.”
The final numbers for Guelph were:

Robert Coole (PC Party): 14,386
