ROCKWOOD – Some in Rockwood remain without power after Sunday night’s powerful windstorm caused widespread outages across the province.
Alectra Utilities said on Monday that power had been returned to over 2,000 customers in Rockwood that day.
However, some readers from Rockwood reached out to GuelphToday to say they are still without power Tuesday morning.
Alectra Utilities spokesperson Rachel Bertone said she learned yesterday that there is a new subdivision in Rockwood that is serviced by Hydro One and not them.
This subdivision is in the north section of town near Rockmosa Park and Sacred Heart Catholic School.
According to Hydro One’s outage map, 424 customers in this area of Rockwood and the surrounding rural area remain without power.
The estimated restoration time is 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
Hydro One spokesperson Alex Stewart said Sunday’s storm had wind gusts reaching 100 km/h which caused significant damage province-wide.
“This is one of the most significant storms we’ve faced since 2018,” Stewart said. “Additional crews and neighbouring utilities have been assisting in some of the hardest hit areas.”
Stewart said they have restored power to 370,000 customers across the province and prioritize emergencies and areas they can help the largest number of customers in the shortest amount of time.
“We know it’s incredibly difficult being without power, our crews are working around the clock right now,” Stewart said.
“We’re dealing with active weather today and I would like to stress that our crews are working tirelessly to get the power back on safely and quickly.”
Further outages can be reported on Alectra Utilities and Hydro One’s outage maps.
