CENTRE WELLINGTON — Centre Wellington has officially approved its 2025 budget and with it, a 3.49 per cent tax increase.
Approved at a Centre Wellington council meeting Monday afternoon, this represents a $50 increase on the local tax bill for the average home assessed at $393,972 and does not include the county portion.
In addition to maintaining service levels, highlights of the budget include reconstructing sections of Colborne Street and Hill Street, asphalt resurfacing on a section of Second Line, implementing the Termite Management Subsidy Program, increased asset investment in downtown Fergus streetlight replacements and a Fire Master Plan update.
Mainly driven by the township's new operation's centre, the budget also includes more than $48 million in capital spending with a majority going toward public works and transportation. Water, wastewater and other fees will increase by 2.5 per cent.
“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to both council and our dedicated staff for their hard work and collaboration in shaping the 2025 budget...I am proud of what we've accomplished together, and I look forward to this budget's positive impact on our community," said Mayor Shawn Watters in a press release.
