Parents in Guelph looking for an outlet for their child’s athletic prowess, look no further. Guelph Youth Basketball Association (GYBA) is here with an array of options for all ages to get involved.
The GYBA Jr. Gryphon Development Program has been Guelph's local recreational basketball program for youth and teens for nearly 30 years. There are programs available for ages 5 to 18. The 14–16-week session begins on October 19 and the cost is just $175 for the full session.
Held on Saturdays, programs for all ages generally focus on skills development, inclusivity, and learning the fundamentals of basketball. The Co-Ed program for five and six -year-olds is one hour per week, while ages seven plus have 1.5-hour weekly sessions.
“We are accepting registrations until October 18,” explained a spokesperson. “Any parent with questions can email [email protected] and we will make sure to get back to them.”
As an added bonus for the youth, each athlete will receive a jersey, shooting shirt and cinch bag. In addition, program participants will have the opportunity to participate in a Guelph Gryphons Halftime Show, during the year.
“We are very proud of our Jr. Gryphon Development Program,” said the spokesperson. “We had 9 divisions, 400 athletes and 50 coaches participating last year. Youth learn a lot about basketball, about being part of a team, and they have a lot of fun every Saturday. For 30 years, we have helped develop future basketball players with this program. Our legacy speaks for itself.”
