Standout features, at a glance
The Outback Wilderness™ comes with a standard 2.4-liter turbocharged SUBARU BOXER® engine, which means robust power, smooth torque and increased towing capacity. It also offers the advanced, dual-function X-MODE. Drivers will appreciate the elevated 9.5-inch ground clearance, the standard front skid plate, upgraded suspension, all-terrain tires to give you superior traction and Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, which will have you all set for adventure.
This vehicle also features the award-winning Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist Technology with Lane Centring Assist and Pre-Collision Braking.
Subaru in-vehicle technology
Enjoy an integrated cockpit experience thanks to SUBARU STARLINK In-Vehicle Technology. This allows the driver to control the entertainment and vehicle settings through a big, colourful touchscreen display. The Outback Wilderness comes standard with the tablet-style 11.6-inch SUBARU STARLINK™ 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus system, which offers direct touch controls for multimedia, HVAC, X-MODE and vehicle settings, and is part of the integrated centre information display.
The multimedia system also includes smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™ and Bluetooth® hands-free phone; it even has audio streaming connectivity. The system comes standard with AM/FM stereo, a rear vision camera, a free 4-month subscription to SiriusXM® All Access Radio and a free 3-year subscription to SiriusXM
Travel Link®. You’ll also have HD Radio® and receive over-the-air updates.
This top-of-the-line 11.6-inch Multimedia with Navigation is available as part of an optional package that also includes a power moonroof and Reverse Automatic Braking. Exclusive to the Outback Wilderness, the X-MODE display features a new Roll-Angle Indicator to help drivers navigate off-road terrain.
A stylish new look: The exterior
You can see the difference in the look of this rugged vehicle too. The exclusive styling includes all-new front and rear bumpers, a bold, hexagonal front grille, larger wheel arch cladding, aluminum and steel skid plates underneath, unique hexagonal-design LED fog lights and an anti-glare hood decal in a matte-black finish. Even the window trim and exterior badges have a striking black finish. Stylish new Subaru Wilderness badges are emblazoned on both the front fenders and the rear gate.
You’ll find high-contrast accents in an anodized copper finish throughout the vehicle’s exterior. These signal useful contact points, such as tow hook anchor points and roof rail tie-down points. Adventurers can safely use a roof-top tent on the trail, thanks to a more utilitarian fixed ladder-type roof rack system that has an exceptional static load limit of 700 lbs. These rails give you more flexibility as you can fit a wider variety of roof racking accessories and heavy equipment on them.
This new Outback trim showcases—and debuts—an exclusive exterior colour in Geyser Blue. It was inspired by Subaru’s rally heritage and the stunning scenery found in national parks throughout the US.
What’s on the inside
No matter what the adventure, whether you’re on the road or trail, you’ll always be comfortable. The interior features heated front and rear seats wrapped in soft-touch upholstery that is made out of Subaru StarTex® water-repellant material; the Subaru Wilderness logo is embossed in the headrests. You’ll also find bold, copper-coloured contrast stitching throughout. It complements similar accents on the steering wheel, shifter assembly and metre rings.
The headliner utilizes a darker color. Instead of the common touch points such as ventilation grilles and cup holders being done in a standard chrome, here they are in a sleek Gunmetal Grey. Even the pedals have a sporty look, in brushed aluminum.
In the cargo area, the rear seatback is wrapped in waterproof material, and the load floor is protected by a waterproof rear cargo tray. Your all-weather rubber floor mats bear the Subaru Wilderness logo; it even appears in the metre display during vehicle start-up.
Performance and Capability
Make no mistake, that 9.5-inch ground clearance is class-leading—and represents a nearly one-inch increase over the already impressive standard model. The suspension has been tuned for improved stability on rough terrain, guaranteeing ride comfort and handling performance when you’re on the open road. The front and rear shock absorbers were also increased in length, which provides more ground clearance and suspension travel.
The Outback Wilderness can navigate rough or uneven terrain especially well, thanks to this increased ground clearance and the redesigned front and rear bumpers. A pressure sensor was added, which improves control accuracy at low speeds. The standard dual-function X-MODE includes settings for Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud. Exclusive to this vehicle is a new advanced feature for X-MODE that allows the vehicle to switch automatically from low-speed managed driving to speeds over 25 mph without interruption of power or performance.
For better performance on muddy or gravel roads, the vehicle comes equipped with Yokohama GEOLANDAR® all-terrain tires. They are mounted on exclusive 17-inch alloy wheels in a matte black finish and the tires are embossed with raised white letters: an homage to the original Outback. A standard full-size tire is stored under the generous cargo area, so you’ll have peace of mind while on the trails.
The Outback Wilderness delivers the perfect blend of SUV capability and car-like ride and handling that the legendary SUV is known for, with help from standard features including Active Torque Vectoring and Vehicle Dynamics Control. Thoughtful upgrades, such as a Front View Monitor, LED Rear Gate Light, and Hands-Free Power Rear Gate offer even more convenience on the trail.
