Every year, The Great Escape raises thousands of dollars to support ongoing needs for seniors in The Elliott Community. These funds are absolutely essential and benefit the residents year-round.
The good news? The Great Escape is back for Fall 2021!
Guests can look forward to a fantastic evening of delicious food, bidding in a silent auction and supporting a great cause—all from the comfort and safety of their homes. To protect the health and safety of the seniors and the community at large, this much-anticipated annual event will be held virtually again this year.
The Great Escape has raised over $441,000 to date and funds much-needed equipment and priority needs at The Elliott Community.
Past equipment purchases have included virtual equipment, a sound system, a mobility bus, blanket warmers, specialized equipment for therapy programs, and, most recently in 2021, virtual bikes.
“The past year and a half has been a challenging time for fundraising,” says Rebecca McKinlay, Fundraising Coordinator. “However, the outpouring of support from our community has been incredible! Our families, donors and the Guelph-Wellington community has come together in a way we never thought possible. Generous donations have enabled us to purchase vital equipment necessary to keep our residents and staff safe and cared for during these unprecedented times.”
With this much-needed equipment, staff can provide exceptional care for seniors living in long-term care, respite, retirement, and those on palliative care measures. This year, funds raised through The Great Escape will help support specialized programs, vital equipment and other priority needs.
Social distancing has been particularly tough on seniors. There’s an overwhelming feeling of loss and loneliness that comes from being separated from their families and the community at large. While the pandemic has certainly been challenging for everyone, seniors have definitely felt the greatest effects.
It is perhaps not so surprising, then, that loneliness and boredom are the biggest concerns in care currently. Staff at The Elliott Community are working hard to combat these challenges every day. That’s why this year they decided to add a new category to The Great Escape; when you “Fund a Need” you are giving residents the gift of comfort. These gifts will provide residents with a supportive and stimulating environment.
Save the date! Join the virtual event on Saturday, October 2, 2021 @ 4:30pm. Please note that the auction and “Fund A Need” run until Sunday, October 3rd at 10:30 pm.
