Statistics in Canada indicate that more deadly accidents happen in the summer and fall than in the winter months. That’s because people do more driving in warmer weather. But despite the numbers, winter weather conditions annually result in many unavoidable collisions, as ice and snow make braking and steering more challenging
While there’s never a good time to be faced with unexpected car repairs, the months right after the holidays are particularly challenging given the bills that often come in through January and February. That’s why Vinnie’s Mr. Fixit wants you to know about their various repair financing options.
“The period right after Christmas can be a tough time for many people,” said Vince Klimkosz, owner of the three area locations of Vinnie’s Mr. Fixit. “If your car is 10 years old or newer, we have repair financing options available using a couple different financers. It’s easy to apply and the options are available for all services including tires, rims, mechanical service and body repairs.”
Vinnie’s Mr. Fixit uses both Wippy and Fix4 as financing options for customers facing the high cost of unexpected repair bills. The service works like a credit card, with the vehicle serving as collateral for the repair loan.
“We can tailor repairs to any budget with financing that does not require a credit check or income verification,” explained Klimkosz. “Approval is instant and is based on the equity in your vehicle. If you have an unexpected car repair coming up it’s a great way to soften the blow.”
Taking proactive steps to ensure your vehicle is properly maintained for winter driving is a great way to help avoid accidents and costly maintenance repairs. For starters, Klimkosz said that it’s vital to keep your vehicle tires properly inflated throughout the winter. Many winter tires don’t have tire pressure monitors on them, so regular checks of your inflation level will help keep your tires operating at maximum efficiency in wintery conditions and help reduce premature wear. Tending to your wipers is also a key bit of winter maintenance.
“A lot of people like to use their wipers like ice and snow scrapers,” said Klimkosz. “In today’s vehicles the wiper transmissions are very poorly built and not as durable as they were in older cars. Wiping all the snow away from your front and rear windows along with the wiper cowling will help them last longer.”
Ensuring your vehicle is equipped with scrapers, blankets, and emergency first aid kits is a good idea for people doing a lot of driving through the winter. Another handy item is a portable booster kit.
“A lot of people are buying the handheld booster packs which can hold a charge for a long time and are compact enough to fit in your glove box,” said Klimkosz. “They’re also strong enough to boost your car, they’re very easy to use, and they double as a portable charger for your phone as well. If you do happen to need portable power in the winter they come in handy.”
