If you’re an art and craft lover, chances are you feel like you’ve been missing out these past few months.
Fortunately, there’s an exciting new event to look forward to.
The Art Gallery of Guelph will be presenting ART/CRAFT 2020, a fundraising art auction, in a new online format that everyone can safely enjoy from the comfort of home.
The auction celebrates the powerful intersection of art and craft, featuring more than 30 works created by contemporary Canadian and Indigenous artists. Every piece was donated to help support the gallery’s programming and educational endeavours. In this year’s auction, you’ll find a real diversity of artists and artistic practices.
Curious? All pieces of artwork are available to view right now online.
“We are thrilled to be able to reinvent ART/CRAFT in a new format for this new moment,” says AGG Director Shauna McCabe.
What’s even more exciting is the variety of creative approaches represented. Expect to see work in the form of photography, ink and pastel drawings, oil, acrylic, gouache, and watercolour paintings, serigraphs, monoprints, lithographs, stonecut and silkscreen prints, as well as bronze, porcelain, and stoneware sculptures.
For those who would like to view the artwork in person, you are welcome to do so at the Art Gallery of Guelph, from November 10 – 28, 2020.
If you see something you love—or a piece you might like to buy as a gift for someone special—the bidding starts on Wednesday, November 18 at 10 am EST. Bids will continue to be accepted until Saturday, November 28 at 8 pm EST and purchasers also have a “buy it now” option.
When you purchase one of these remarkable pieces, you are showing your commitment to the arts. Sales of these auction items raise important funds that support artists directly, as well as the surrounding communities, who benefit from the gallery’s esteemed public programs and transformative exhibitions.
The Art Gallery of Guelph is the city’s leading arts institution, recognized internationally for its collection of over 10,000 Canadian and international works. It is known for facilitating opportunities for dialogue and exchange that create positive social change through creative practices. The work they feature, and the work they do, is inspiring, engaged and bold.
Says McCabe, “The phenomenal generosity and enthusiasm of the local and national arts community makes this event a cornerstone of the gallery’s activities.”
Browse the online auction catalogue at your leisure and show your support for the gallery and its important mission at this much-anticipated gala fundraiser.
