Apex Trials: Advancing healthcare through clinical trials

The Nutrasource Clinical Trial Site, based in Guelph, Ontario, is rebranding to Apex Trials to be more inclusive in their clinical trial offerings.

Katie Keene, Clinic Supervisor at Apex Trials, says, "We are excited to expand beyond healthy volunteer trials (or studies for participants who are generally healthy). This expansion opens options for different clients to look at our site for a wide variety of clinical trial indications for both pharmaceutical and nutraceutical studies."

By bringing on more pharma studies, Apex Trials can be more inclusive to the community and have people with conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes participate.

The clinic had previously only conducted studies for generally healthy participants with tight restrictions on BMI range and medication use. The company is now looking to offer studies for weight management, diabetes, cardiovascular conditions, immune health, and more. This, in turn, will give more people a chance to participate in future studies and help advance research in these areas.

Clinical trials are essential in advancing healthcare, and Apex Trials is dedicated to making their studies accessible to everyone. People participate in clinical trials for a variety of reasons. Keene says, "Many people participate for the sake of advancing research in a certain area because they or someone they know has a condition that they want to support through research.”

The number of applicants varies depending on the study, with probiotic studies attracting a lot of interest as of late.

In terms of the studies themselves, the level of oversight depends on the type of study being conducted. In phase two or three studies, participants are typically given the product to take home and complete a diary. However, in phase one studies, where the focus is on finding out more about the safety of the product, participants may be dosed in the clinic with all procedures carried out on-site.

The rebranding of Apex Trials has been strategic, with the company wanting to work directly with clients and attract direct business as a separate entity from its parent company, Nutrasource. The move will also enable the company to expand its offerings, drawing on its experienced medical and research staff to conduct a range of pharma studies in addition to natural health product studies.

Keene adds, “The rebranding and new name give Apex Trials the freedom to conduct different types of studies and offer more capabilities to engage participants in research.”

Apex Trials has a variety of studies ongoing, such as an immune study and a probiotic study, both of which are accepting applications.

Readers can visit the Apex Trials website to see if there’s a study of interest to them.

The site is continually updated with new study opportunities, as well as allowing interested participants to join our mailing list to learn about new opportunities first. Keene says, "We compensate participants fairly for their time and travel to the clinic." If you’re interested in advancing healthcare and being a part of a study, Apex Trials is the perfect opportunity for you.
