As the United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin's 2023 campaign enters its final stretch, the organization urges the community to seize the opportunity to make a lasting impact.

With a compelling message from Glenna Banda, Executive Director of United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin, emphasizing the collective power to bring positive change, this campaign stands as a beacon of hope in challenging times.

United Way serves as the 'go-to' nonprofit organization for holiday donations, ensuring that contributions directly address the community's pressing needs.

"We recognize that times are challenging for everyone. For some, it’s a year where donating isn’t possible and you may need the support of community services. So, for others, no matter the amount, we will ensure the most impact possible with your gift.," said Banda

United Way's commitment to improving the community is underscored by its innovative Community Impact Strategy. In response to ongoing challenges, including declining mental health, isolation, food insecurity, and inequity, the organization employs local data and resources to monitor and address these issues with locally-driven solutions.

Its proactive approach to community challenges sets United Way apart. The organization identifies deep-rooted issues and collaborates with community partners on the frontlines to implement practical solutions. This distinguishes United Way as a dynamic force in addressing pressing social needs.

Recognizing the heightened needs of the community, the Board of Directors has launched a fundraising initiative where every donation will be doubled up to $24,000. This matching opportunity amplifies the impact of each contribution, encouraging community members to participate in creating positive change.

The 2023 campaign, concluding on December 31st, comes at a critical time. The cost of living is rising, increasing pressure on the social service sector and amplifying funding needs. United Way actively responds to these challenges through initiatives like the fundraising matching opportunity.

Reflecting on the success of last year’s campaign, where $2.6 million was raised and invested locally over the past five years, United Way remains steadfast in its commitment to the community. The organization has supported crucial programs such as food pantries, emergency shelters, and mental health crisis lines.

Donations are accepted at workplaces across Guelph, Wellington and Dufferin counties and encouraged by the general community through the United Way office (519-821-0571 or www.unitedwaygwd.com). Donations, as always, stay 100% local.
