Farnworth Superior Memorials is celebrating 100 years of providing memorialization to the families they serve. Part of the Superior Memorials family, which itself is over 95 years old and has 12 locations, Farnworth remains a family-operated business. Steve Lemieux, Memorial Counsellor, has been with Farnworth for a year and a half. As the company celebrates its centennial, Lemieux shares what has enabled their success during the many years of creating custom cemetery memorials.
“We don’t farm out any work, its all done in house by skilled craftsman,” he says. “We meet with the families and talk about their loved ones and their needs and offer unique and customized memorials. There are no cookie cutter memorials where they are all the same shape and size. We have an artist team for the layout, and a number of stone carvers that do the work in Kitchener. Since we don’t make the sale then send the work to a third party, our customers can rely on our consistency and direct lines of communication.”
The granite used at Farnworth memorials is sourced through the finest quarries from Canada and India with grade A granites customized for each family. They also provide a perpetual guarantee.
Lemieux continues, “We tell the stories of people’s loved ones in stone with the shape of the memorial. We have carved a 3D cat out of granite for someone that loved cats. We have carved pianos, a cribbage board, replicated a sport’s player’s jersey in a locker, full standing angels and more. Anything you can imagine we can do, including laser etching and colour images. For example, we can recreate the view from the deck of their cottage. Besides monuments and flat markers, we also offer inscription services. We can, for example, inscribe the wife’s name, birthday and date of passing, and then leave room for the husband’s inscriptions to be added after he passes. Additionally, we work with all the cemeteries in the area, from the large commercial ones to the private church and rural ones.”
For the Farnworth team, it all starts with truly listening to the families and showing empathy during their time of need. We are creating memories in stone.
“The families are there to share the stories of their loved ones so we can design a memorial that fit’s that person’s life no matter how simple or elaborate the tribute. Everyone’s story should be told and remembered. Creating that piece is important for loved ones to be able to have a place to go to visit or reflect. They feel like they are visiting their loved ones and that is important to the grieving process.”
Although Farnworth offers cleaning and restoration, the stone markers are designed to last a lifetime. If the marker is under a tree, or flat and accumulates some debris over the winter, or if it has been vandalised, Farnworth can provide a quote to clean/restore the memorial.
With an in-house creative team, caring staff, and an unparalleled reputation, Farnworth has won many design awards as a monument builder. More importantly, however, they have served generations of families with high-quality, custom granite memorials that last a lifetime.
