Students from Guelph Family Martial Arts returned from the Open Martial Arts Championships held this past weekend in Mono. The event drew athletes from across the province and martial artists from different styles.

Students from Guelph Family Martial Arts returned from the Open Martial Arts Championships held this past weekend in Mono. The event drew athletes from across the province and martial artists from different styles. 

Coached by lifetime local residents and World Champions Nathan and Sophie Skoufis.

The team brought home:

10x Gold medals

2x Silver medals

1x Bronze medal 

Results were:

Grace Bridges: Silver Medal Sparring

Chris Hordatt: 

Gold Medal Kata, Gold Medal Sparring and Gold Medal Weapons (35 years and older advanced men)

Gold Medal Kata and Gold Medal Weapons

(18 years-34 years old advanced) (5 Gold Medals)

David Opiela: Gold Medal Sparring

Kent Watson: Gold Medal Sparring

Vanya Chadha: Bronze Medal Sparring

Deepali Rajpal: Silver Medal Sparring 

Meghan McMurtry: Gold Medal Sparring 

Mike Barker: 

Gold Medal Sparring (35 years and older)

Gold Medal Sparring (18-34 years old)

Congratulations to our community athletes, this was the final tournament of the 2024 season for the team. They will next be in action in 2025 at the Ontario Provincial Martial Arts Championships.
