A woman has been treated after she was rescued from a fifth-floor balcony during an apartment fire in Guelph Sunday night.
Guelph firefighters were called to 87 Westwood Rd. – near the north end of Margaret Greene Park – at 10:11 p.m.
Five stations responded to the six-storey building.
“There was a lot of smoke (when firefighters arrived),” said fire chief Brian Arnold. “Visibility was difficult.”
He said the fire was contained to one unit on the fifth floor, but smoke spread to other units.
Fire crews rescued one person from a balcony, and was treated for smoke inhalation in hospital. Nobody else required medical assistance.
The cause, origin and a damage estimate is unknown.
Guelph fire and the Office of the Fire Marshal remain at the scene to investigate.
